Finally, we visit Minneria or Kaudulla National Park, which is nearby. Wildlife safaris can be enjoyed at Minneriya and Kaudulla National Parks. Minneriya National Park is well-known for its annual `elephant gathering,` which occurs between August and September each year. During the dry season, 200–300 elephants congregate around the Minneriya reservoir, which has lush vegetation. This is a beautiful experience in which you may witness elephants feeding and bathing while socializing with the rest of the herd. Kaudulla is around 40 minutes from Minneriya and is home to a huge population of Sri Lankan elephants. From August through September, large herds of elephants congregate at water holes near Kaudulla, similar to Minneriya. The park also has endemic mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, such as the Sri Lankan sloth bear, albino axis deer, and the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. Because of the 160 species found here, Kaudulla has been designated an Important Bird Area.
